BMGIn December 2014, Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson was joined by a variety of special guests at a concert in Las Vegas that was taped for an episode of the long-running PBS performance series Soundstage that premiered last year. The event, which showcased songs from Wilson’s then-upcoming album No Pier Pressure, as well as various Beach Boys classics and gems, gets released today as a CD/DVD and CD/Blu-ray package.

Brian Wilson and Friends features Wilson and his backing band performing with several musicians who lent their talents to No Pier Pressure, including Brian’s longtime Beach Boys band mate Al Jardine, former Beach Boys sidemen Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, fun. singer Nate Ruess, noted trumpet player Mark Isham and Sebu Simonian, frontman of the indie-pop act Capital Cities.

Among the many songs performed at the concert, which took place at the Venetian Theatre, were “Sloop John B,” “Good Vibrations,” “God Only Knows” and “Fun, Fun, Fun.” In addition, Jardine lends guest vocals to “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Help Me Rhonda” and other tunes; Ruess sings “Darlin’,” and Simonian croons “Don’t Worry Baby.” The show also includes a taped segment featuring Wilson duetting with actress/singer Zooey Deschanel.
