Ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker recently formed a new version of his early-1970s jazz-fusion collective Airforce, and the influential musician now has announced the first U.S. shows for the group. Ginger Baker’s Airforce 3 will touch down at the famed New York City jazz club The Iridium on May 9 and 10.
Baker and his band will be playing songs by his various musical projects, including Cream, Blind Faith and the original Airforce, as well as some newly arranged tunes. According to a press statement, Airforce 3 will feature Ginger “showcasing new talent and welcoming old friends.” Tickets for the concerts are priced at $75 and $95, and will go on sale Thursday, January 28, at noon ET via TheIridium.com and at the venue’s box office.
Ginger Baker’s Airforce formed following the 1969 breakup of the supergroup Blind Faith, and released two albums in 1970 — a self-titled live record and a studio album titled Ginger Baker’s Airforce 2. Among the many musicians who played in the short-lived project were Baker’s Blind Faith band mates Steve Winwood and Rick Grech, Traffic‘s Chris Wood, Graham Bond and ex-Moody Blues — and future Wings — singer/guitarist Denny Laine.
No word yet if Baker will schedule more U.S. performances with Airforce 3.
