Last year, Daryl Hall & John Oates introduced HoagieNation, their very own music and food festival, in their hometown of Philadelphia. On Saturday, the duo and their musical pals are back for a second helping, and they’re getting things started a little early, too.
“What made us want to continue it was it was very successful,” Daryl tells ABC Radio. “It’s really gonna be more of a two-day event this year. Last year was just one.”
Things get underway tonight with a pre-party at The Fillmore in Philadelphia, a venue that partially inspired Hall & Oates’ current single “Philly Forget Me Not.” In addition to performances by a couple of musical acts, there will be food from a huge number of acclaimed chefs, including Top Chef and Food Network stars.
On Saturday, the action moves to Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing, where about eight different acts will be playing throughout the day, and, naturally, there’ll be a hoagie eating contest.
“It’s gonna be great,” Daryl says. “Train is gonna play before us, and us, and we also have my friends Fitz and the Tantrums on the bill that night…so it’s gonna be a very interesting night. And other people — it’s a festival!”
He adds, “And we’re gonna really have some great food there. Y’know, it’s Philly! You gotta have some great food….it’s gonna be a great time, a great day.”
Following the festival, Hall & Oates will resume their joint tour with Train on June 5 in Toronto.
