A two-CD/DVD set titled Memories in Rock II featuring highlights from the three U.K. concerts that the new incarnation of Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow played last year will be released on April 6. The live performances documented on the collection’s CDs include renditions of a variety of Rainbow tunes, as well as versions of classic songs by Ritchie Blackmore‘s other famous band, Deep Purple.
Among the songs featured on Memories in Rock II are Rainbow’s “Since You’ve Been Gone,” “Man on the Silver Mountain,” “I Surrender” and “All Night Long,” and Deep Purple’s “Woman from Tokyo,” “Perfect Strangers,” “Child in Time” and “Smoke on the Water.” Also included on the CDs is a brand-new studio recording, “Waiting for a Sign,” which will be released as a digital single on March 16. This will mark Rainbow’s first new single since 1996.
The DVD, meanwhile, boasts behind-the scenes footage, as well as new interviews with Blackmore and some of his new Rainbow band mates, including singer Ronnie Romero. Among the topics Ritchie discusses in the DVD are his decision to resurrect Rainbow after seeing online videos of Romero performing, the balance between amount of Rainbow and Deep Purple songs included in his group’s sets, and how frequently he plans to perform with the new band.
Memories in Rock II also will be available on vinyl and in digital formats.
