Hawkins, who was joined by drummer Mike Arturi of The Lovin’ Spoonful, visited the school as a mentor for arts education program Turnaround Arts. You can watch footage of their performance now via KAALTV.com.

“Music, I’ve heard it said before, is its own gift,” Hawkins said. “I’ve had people come up to me and say, ‘What is it like to be a rock star?’ or whatever. I’m like, ‘Well, that’s just part of the job.’ In actuality, the music is still the thing that’s most the most enjoyable part and still the passion that drives me to get up and do it every day.”

Hawkins and the rest of Foo Fighters will kick off a U.S. summer tour in support of their new album Concrete and Gold in July.
